Appearing on the Valerie Richardson show, WPKN

I grew up in Uniontown, PA,  the seat of a county the State cops call Fayette Nam.  Tough place.  Through an inexplicable series of never-to-be-repeated errors I was permitted not only to attend but graduate from Yale.  I then went on to the the University of Wisconsin Law School and returned to New Haven in 1985.

My first book, The Rage of Achilles, is a novelization of the Iliad in graphic modern language.  Lots of F bombs, in other words.  My second, American Neolithic, appeared in May 2014.

Not having learned from earlier mistakes, the University allowed me to become the founding Director of the Yale Writers' Conference in 2011.
